The Crimson Petal and the White (BBC2). By far the best-directed drama of 2011 – proper cinematic quality – with a genuinely surprising turn from Chris O’Dowd as a man who is a joke, but isn’t funny at all because he destroys everyone around him. Also, Romola Garai urinated into a bowl.
What you will be sitting down to watch at Christmas
This Is Jinsy Moosic Special (22 Dec Sky1) - the songs were the best thing about the series. My kids are obsessed with them and so am I. Altogether now! “It’s cold and it’s wet and it looks just like an onion...”
What advice would you give to people working in TV
Make something new, not something that’s a bit like that other thing people liked. People probably liked that other thing because it was new.
