How can I get my first gig regionally with only student film experience?

I'm interested in researching, assistant directing, assistant art directing, self-shooting. I'm happy to shadow people at this stage and hopefully get running jobs. I'm not currently living in London and there doesn't seem to be anything elsewhere available for someone like me, with a lack of experience.
