What are my first steps to breaking into the filming world with a strong animal interest?

I have worked with animals for 7 years. I am keen to see if I can bring this experience into the filming world. Can anyone offer any advice as to how I could achieve this ? I have worked at Zoos, held several positions as an Intern at Rescue ranches worldwide. Keen to hear from anyone who has taken the same path, what should be my first step? any roles I should look to start at, any companies I should approach? I'm South East based..
