Getting into TV from a branded content background?

I have been producing branded content, shorts etc for a long while now but would love to break into some factual/doc/series work. As a producer, a lot of the skills I have are transferable to PC/PM roles but all the roles advertised always say you need previous experience/credits so I never hear back... Any clues as to how to get that foot into this particular door? Thanks all :-)
