Docs are my passion and I love unearthing interesting stories and characters and finding new angles by looking in unexpected places. All my films aim to have heart, style, brains and visual flair.Recently completed projects include the feature doc 'The Artist and the Wall of Death' (Screen Ireland/ Creative Scotland/ BBC Scotland/ RTE} and the landmark Tv series 'Epic West', presented by Tommy Tiernan for RTE. Currently in post production on my 2nd feature doc about a community of spiritual misfits and the perils of the path to enlightenment.Currently based in Dublin after 15 years based in London/ Glasgow spent mainly working for the BBC but always happy to travel. I also have a background in current affairs and lots of experience setting up shoots and filming abroad.In 2017 I set up Lifeblood Films to specialize in creative documentaries for Irish and international audiences and high-class promotional content for clients including UNICEF and the Irish National Theatre.My work has screened at numerous international film festivals, including Tribeca, NY Op Docs, Full Frame, Sydney, Edinburgh, Hot Springs, Dallas, Dublin, Cork, Fastnet Film Festivals.I film much of his work and am especially interested in observational, history and arts films. I'm a former Sheffield Documentary Festival ‘Future Producer’ and hold an MA in Journalism from Dublin City University.I've worked closely with everyone from world famous presenters to 1st timers to nervous contributors in sensitive situations and have been able to gain their trust to tell the story in the best possible way.I produced and directed the acclaimed BBC 2 documentary Keeping the Faith: Northern Soul, presented by Paul Mason. Recent films include the landmark 60-minute 'Story of Scottish Art' and a film with John Cooper Clarke about De Quincey's 'Confessions of an English Opium Eater'.I've made countless shorts for most of the BBC’s landmark programmes and learned my trade making dozens of original stand alone films for the Culture Show. I also made dozens of topical films as a self-shooting PD for the primetime entertainment programme the One Show - topics including a series of films on access to education for young women in India which were chosen as a highlight of the One Show's ten years and re-shown as part of their anniversary celebrations.Other long-form credits include a self-shot and directed obs-doc film for BBC4 on street photographer Tom Wood.I series directed 2 x 60 minute films for BBC 2 Ents about one of Scotland's most iconic symbols, the filming of which took us all over Europe and the US. And my film about writer William McIlvanney premiered at Glasgow Film Festival gaining five star reviews and an honourary commendation in the Scottish parliament.My short ‘Buffalo Dreams’, produced with Scottish Documentary Institute, has screened and won awards at top festivals around the world and qualified for Academy Award consideration. I was Assistant Producer on the 90-minute Cold War drama-doc ‘Avoiding Armageddon’ for Channel4/ Discovery which won the Grierson for best historical documentary.
